Ridley Scott Blog A Thon- Sept 20-24,2010
Who is the real Ridley Scott? Is he the auteur who made classics like Blade Runner, Thelma and Louise and Alien? Or a mere visual hack, who came up with glossy cop dramas like Someone to Watch over Me and Black Rain? Or a studio hand, who comes up with stuff like Gladiator which is a more gory version of Spartacus?
Problem with Ridley Scott, is his inconsistency that can often be frustrating. It is frustrating to watch A Good Year or G.I.Jane, and then you see a Blade Runner, it is in another league. His Legend was an excellent attempt at fantasy, but never got the due it deserved, nor his more under rated The Duellists, an excellent period piece. What is for sure, is this guy is a master of visuals. Be it the dystopian futuristic city in Blade Runner, the graphics of ancient Rome in Gladiator, the stunning battle visuals in Black Hawk Down, or the claustrophobic interiors of the space ship in Alien, his camera work is just awesome.
I am planning to start a Blog A Thon, dedicated to the work of Ridley Scott, from Sept 20-24,2010 on my blog. The objective of this is to get a clearer picture of Scott’s contribution to movies. Visual Hack, auteur or studio hand, or a combination of all 3. That is what i am seeking. What i am looking at are contributions that would explore some of Scott’s lesser known work, The Duellists, Legend to boot. I am already planning a couple on Black Rain and White Squall, two movies of his, i find quite underrated.
You are free to promote the Blog A Thon at your website with the following images.
I am seeking contributions from movie lovers, who love to write and discuss on Scott’s movies. Interested persons can send in their entries to ratnakar.techie@gmail.com. Or if you are have already written about any Scott movie on your blog, feel free to send me the link.

I might write up something on the director's cut of Kingdom of Heaven.
Sure Adam, and could you pass this information to any friends of yours too.– Ratnakar
Ratnakar…I have never regarded Ridley Scott as an auteur, but, his films are visually impressive and stylish. Alien, Blade Runner (impressive in terms of production and imagination but flawed in terms of script), Black hawk Down are good movies. I favour James Cameron over Ridley Scott. "The Terminator" now that is some achievement. What people don't realise is it was a low budget film (in comparison to action movie budget). Yet the film had so much to offer especially if you compare with sequels. Similarly I have always preferred Aliens over Alien.
What a great idea! I actually wrote a length, in-depth piece on LEGEND if you want to link up to for your blogathon. Check it out, here:http://rheaven.blogspot.com/2010/05/legend.htmlI've also posted a banner on my blog.
